We will be running an Alpha course this autumn and
would love to hear from anyone who is interested in
either attending or helping with the course. We have
run the course for several years and many people here
can testify to the fact that not only did they grow
spiritually, and in understanding of Christianity, but
they really enjoyed the course.
What
is Alpha?
The Alpha Course is an opportunity for anyone to explore
the big questions of life such as: Why are we here?
What happens after we die? Why is our spirituality important?
Exactly who was this man Jesus? Why is there so much
suffering? It is relaxed, low-key, friendly and fun.
There is no question too simple, too silly, too big
or too hostile that you can't ask it. Anything goes!
We meet on a Sunday evening, watch a video, have a light
meal together and discuss the issues raised. Listen,
learn, discuss and discover.
The Alpha Course Phenomenon
The Alpha course is now running in more than 7000 locations
around the UK and more than 1.5 million people have
attended an Alpha course in the UK to date. The course,
which started at a London church in the early 1980's
is now run in more than 100 countries around the world
and in dozens of different languages. For hundreds of
thousands of people, going on an Alpha course has been
the start of experiencing life in a completely fresh,
new and exciting way.
Alpha is for everyone, especially:
· Those wanting to investigate Christianity
· New Christians
· Newcomers to the church
· Those who want to brush up on the
basics
The Alpha course covers the essentials of the Christian
faith and runs in every type of church, including:
Anglican, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist,
Salvation Army, Free Church, Pentecostal, Assemblies
of God and House Churches. All the churches provide
the same material, making alterations only to suit local
culture.
If you would like to get involved, please speak to
John Sawyer, Trish & Colin Pope or any of the elders
