Friday Oasis
Friday Oasis is run by St Saviours Christian Centre for children aged between 5 and 16 (one group for children in school years 1 up to year 6 and the second group for children in school years 7 to 11). It is intended to provide a safe and enjoyable place for play and creative activities within a Christian context.

Friday Oasis runs during school term-time only and ends for its Summer break at May half-term, re-starting again the following September.

General Rules
• Friday Oasis will not open before 7pm. Since we cannot guarantee to accept all children, parents must wait with their children until they have been registered.
• The club finishes at 8.30pm. People collecting children should arrive at St Saviours just before 8.30pm.
• No child will be allowed to leave the building unless an adult collects them.
• Children are required to be well behaved and respectful.

Activities Offered
Friday Oasis normally offers a variety of activities. These usually include football, basketball, pool, table football, skipping, craft, and other quieter activities. Included in the entry fee is a selection of sweets and drink from our tuck shop. No guarantee is made that any particular activity will be available on a given evening. Occasionally we may hold a theme evening where all normal activities are suspended.

Christian activities
Parents should be aware that Friday Oasis is run by St Saviours Christian Centre and the club does involve Christian activities. This usually involves (but not restricted to) a 10 minute presentation at the beginning of club. This is an integral part of the club and all children are required to attend.

Child Protection
Since Friday Oasis is responsible for children for less than 2 hours, we are not covered by the Children’s Act (1989). However, we are committed to providing a safe environment for the children and we therefore abide by the provisions within the Act as far as we possibly can. Therefore, we have set the following rules:

• The club will not open unless a minimum of 5 adult supervisors are present.
• The ratio of children to adult supervisors will not exceed 6:1 for children under the age of 8 and 8:1 for children over the age of 8. If we are unable to take all children who arrive on a particular evening, admission will be on a first come, first served basis.
• Where possible no adult supervisor will be in a room on their own with a child.
• The club will not open unless at least one adult supervisor who holds a current first aid certificate is present.

We perform Police Checks on as many of our helpers as we can. We take great care when selecting adult supervisors and follow the procedures laid out in the Elim Church ‘Safe from Harm’ policy document. A copy of this document is available from the Friday Oasis Leader upon request.

Discipline
Our discipline policy uses a system similar to a football match with yellow and red cards. We felt this policy would be one the children could easily understand and therefore co-operate with. Obviously, cards will not be issued for minor offences where a verbal warning will be issued, but repeated inappropriate behaviour will result in a yellow or red card being given to the child’s parent/guardian at the end of the evening. Sadly, two yellow cards in one evening, yellow cards being given on a regular basis or a red card will result in the child having to miss a specified number of sessions. Repeated issuing of red cards to the same child may well result in a permanent ban.

Instances of deliberate violence will not be tolerated and immediate exclusion will apply. In this instance, a parent/guardian will be contacted to collect the child immediately.
